Am I eligible for accommodation at Macquarie University Village?

All Macquarie University students are eligible to apply for accommodation at Macquarie University Village, including research assistants and full-time, part-time, undergraduate and postgraduate students.

ACCOMMODATION

Are pets allowed?

No pets, including fish, may be kept in the Village. Additionally, residents are not permitted to bring animals into any building of the Village. This Rule does not apply to the extent that it restricts the keeping of a guide or hearing dog. See Village Rules.

ACCOMMODATION

Are priorities given to particular students?

Macquarie University Village hosts a diverse range of residents from all over the world and across Australia, and we see this as a true strength of our community. To ensure fairness, we don’t give preference to any group over others. Therefore we encourage all applicants to submit the relevant forms as early as possible to avoid disappointment.

ACCOMMODATION

Can I choose my flatmates?

If you’d like to share a room with a friend, please specify this on your application form. Given the demand for rooms, we can’t guarantee to fulfill all requests, but we’ll definitely try our best to accommodate you.

The earlier you and your friend apply, the easier it is for us to assign you to the same apartment.

ACCOMMODATION

Can my partner live with me?

Spouses, partners, boyfriends or girlfriends can apply for accommodation at Macquarie University Village, as long as they are students at Macquarie University. A limited number of double and twin share rooms are available in selected 5 bedroom apartments. Given the demand for rooms, we can't guarantee to fulfill all requests, but we'll definitely try our best to accommodate you.

ACCOMMODATION

Do you provide a cleaning service?

All residents are responsible for keeping their rooms and apartments clean. A cleaning service can be organised for a fee. Please enquire at Reception.

FACILITIES

Do you provide internet access?

Broadband connectivity is available in every bedroom at the Village (charges apply). Contact Reception for more information on internet packages.

We also have an e-library where you can access the internet.

FACILITIES

How close is Macquarie University Village to the University and the CBD?

Macquarie University Village is located on-campus at Macquarie University, just across the road from the University’s new sports centre. To give you an idea of how close you are to your classes, it takes approximately five minutes to walk to the main courtyard, and about two minutes to the library.

Need some entertainment? The Macquarie Centre shopping mall is approximately a 10 minute walk away, where you can enjoy a huge range of shops, a movie cinema and an ice-skating rink.

The Village is about a 30 minute drive from the CBD and within easy reach of restaurants, cafes and other local attractions.

ACCOMMODATION

How is the Macquarie University Village experience different to private rental accommodation?

Macquarie University Village offers an independent living experience in stylish, affordable accommodation, just minutes away from classes! At the same time, we ensure support is available 24 hours a day, and offer a fantastic residential life program to help you live, learn and grow.

This means that you have the freedom to do what you want (within reason of course and subject to the Village Rules) and can enjoy the benefits of living in an exciting student community. You also have peace of mind knowing that there are always staff available to provide assistance.

In short, we offer a fantastic balance between support and independence!

ACCOMMODATION

How long are your residential agreements?

Macquarie University Village offers 52 week residential agreements. This gives residents the freedom to access rooms and facilities mid year and throughout the summer period. It means you don’t have to spend time and money moving and is especially convenient if you want to stay in the same room next year (subject to you applying within the reapplication period and Macquarie University Village offering you a room).

ACCOMMODATION

Is catering available?

Macquarie University Village doesn't provide catering. However each apartment has a full kitchen including a fridge, freezer, stovetop, microwave and basic crockery and cutlery so feel free to cook up a storm at any time of day (subject to the Village Rules).

If you need some tips, join one of our cooking classes! Check our event calendar to see if one is coming up.

If you're in the mood to eat out, we're approximately ten minutes from the Macquarie Centre’s diverse selection of restaurants and cafés. Whether you want to pick up some takeaway or have a nice dinner with friends, you’ll be spoilt for choice.

FACILITIES

What do I need to bring/buy?

All residents need to supply their own:

  • Bed linen, quilts/blankets and pillows (king single linen for the five bedrooms apartments, double linen for one & two bedroom apartments)
  • Towels and tea towels
  • Cooking equipment, crockery, cutlery, glasses, cooking utensils

ACCOMMODATION

What if I don't recieve an offer to Macquarie University?

We anticipate that it is every resident's intention to honour their 2015 Residential Agreement. However, unforeseen events do occur that may result in residents wishing to vacate their rooms.

Residents should refer to the full terms and conditions of their Residential Agreements (provided to those who are offered a room at the Village in 2015)

Universities Admissions Centre (UAC)

Domestic first year students who have applied to the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) for an offer to study at Macquarie University Village in the 2015 year (Macquarie University Offer) are eligible for the First Year Exemption (Eligible Resident).

If you are an Eligible Resident you can apply and if accepted by Village management, you can enter into a Residential Agreement at Macquarie University Village before receiving and accepting a Macquarie University Offer with the knowledge that you can terminate your Residential Agreement with limited liability under the First Year Exemption.

First Year Exemption:

Domestic first year students proposing to study in New South Wales do not usually receive an offer from UAC until late in January of the intended year of study. If you are an Eligible Resident and enter into a Residential Agreement at Macquarie University Village for the 2015 year commencing 1 January 2015 and you:

1. are notified by UAC that you have not received a Macquarie University Offer;

Then you must notify Village management of this in writing within 3 working days of the UAC Main Round Offer date being the 21st of January 2015. Latest acceptance of notice of contract cancellation will be 5pm Friday the 23rd of January 2015.

If you comply with all of the above terms, your liability under the Residential Agreement will be limited to the application fee paid upon commencement of your online application to Macquarie University Village.

If you do not comply with the abovementioned terms, the First Year Exemption will not apply and you will be liable for all Residential Fees and other charges payable under the Residential Agreement.
